My mother was diagnoised with breast cancer 4 yrs ago and had the lump removed along with several positive lymph nodes. She began her journey into the unknown. She decided that she would fight for her life back and began treatment, chemotheraphy & radiation.
My mother was also diagnoised with depression prior to this battle, so she had to fight not one battle but two battles.
My mother was a strong and independant woman who raised 4 children as a single parent at the age of 16 yrs old, she gave her whole life to us children and when she relized that she was sick we began this fight together as a family, us children gave her the strength and encouragment to never give up on her self and that she did not, her body may not have been the strongest but we were there to lift her up when ever she had fallen.
She fought this battle for 4 yrs and was cancer free, every test was good news over the four years; thank god. It was in August that she developed a chronic cough and could not get rid of it, she had a chest x-ray and the results turned up good, then later on she developed pain in her hip area so the doctor sent her for a bone scan and the results also turned up no cancer, they said that she could possibly have a disease called Paget's Disease which was not to serious and that it could be controlled with medications. So the pain in her hip did not go away so they sent her for a ct-scan and that is when our world came crashing down.
My mother was told some terrible news in February 2008 that her cancer had returned and it had become metastic to her lung, liver and spine. One week after finding this out she had a seizure at home and 911 was called and she was rushed to the hospital because she had never had a seizure in her life. The doctor's gave her a ct-scan of her head and the results came back that it had went to her brain; two lesions were discovered. They had given my mother three months to live.
We took my mother home from the hospital after two weeks of being in there, she wanted to be at home.
My sister and I took care of my mother the best way we could. She stopped eating by this point and was very lathargic and the medications were becoming harder to give her. We made the choice after two months that the best choice was to have her admitted to pallative care because we could not give her the proper care at home anymore, arrangements were made for the ambulance to pick her up the next day. I woke up the next day and I just could not bring myself to put her in the hospital, I cancelled the ambulance because I made a promise to her that no matter what I would keep her at home surrounded by her children and family and I kept my promise to her because two days later my mother passed away. I lost my mother and my best friend! I also lost my baby girl in November of 2007, her name is Kara Grace Drake-McDonald. I made a memorial page for her as well! I believe that my mother was sent to heaven to take care of my little girl because I could not!
My mother is my angel and my daughters angel as well!
Till we reunite in heaven's beautiful garden mommy! I miss you and love you very much! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
